Road Safety Grants welcomed for Perth's northern suburbs

Liberal Member for North Metropolitan Region, Peter Katsambanis MLC, has congratulated the successful recipients of the latest round of the Road Safety Community Grants Program.

The WA Liberal National Government has granted funding to sixteen organisations and groups across the state, with four in Perth’s northern suburbs.

“The cities of Joondalup, Stirling, Wanneroo and Vincent will all receive funding for locally developed and implemented road safety projects.” Mr Katsambanis said.

Mr Katsambanis explained the grants would help foster community support to assist in the prevention of road crashes causing serious injury and death in Western Australia.

“In the past five years road fatalities have dropped by 30 per cent, but unfortunately, WA still has one of the worst fatality rates in Australia.

“In 2014, we are going to keep building on our efforts to reduce the road toll.” Mr Katsambanis concluded.

The Road Safety Community Grants Program is administered through the Office of Road Safety, which supports local organisations to actively raise awareness about road safety within their community.

The State Government encourages community organisations to apply for the next round of grants for grassroots road safety initiatives, which will close Friday February 7, by visiting http://www.ors.wa.gov.au/CommunityGrants
