Parking boost for Hillarys Boat Harbour
17 October 2013
Peter Katsambanis, Member for North Metropolitan Region, today welcomed the commencing of work on the $1.2million extension of the northern car park at Hillarys Boat Harbour. The additional 65 bays to the popular destination will be completed by December.
Mr Katsambanis said the boat harbour was an important and extremely popular Perth landmark, visited by more than four million people each year.
“The Hillarys Boat Harbour is the jewel in the crown of Perth's northern suburbs with restaurants, shops and other aquatic attractions. As visitor numbers continue to grow, the extension of the northern car park will increase the harbour’s capacity and help ease traffic congestion during busy times,” he said.
“The new bays will be located next to the boat launching facility, which is the busiest in the metropolitan area, so the boost in parking bays will be welcomed by boat users as well as all other visitors.”
Construction has been scheduled during the quieter spring months to limit disruption and minimise inconvenience to harbour tenants and visitors.
Work will be staged and there will be a temporary closure of the northern car park while construction is under way.
It is anticipated the majority of the works will be completed by December 2013 with final landscaping to follow in winter 2014.
The car park extension follows significant improvements at the harbour in recent years, including the introduction of family friendly landscaping to incorporate shade shelters and barbecues and the new pedestrian bridge linking the retail areas with the northern part of the harbour.
"With all these wonderful facilities and with convenient parking, I encourage everyone to come down to Hillarys this summer to enjoy a great day out," Mr Katsambanis said.
