New schools for Butler, Yanchep and Banksia Grove
12 August 2013
Peter Katsambanis, Member for North Metropolitan Region, has welcomed the WA Liberal National Government’s commitment to invest $83.4 million on building new schools and upgrading existing schools in Perth’s rapidly growing northern corridor.
This commitment includes:
- $29 million to continue construction of the Banksia Grove Senior High School;
- $16 million to continue construction of the North Butler Primary School;
- $13.5 million for Stage 2 of the recently opened Butler College; and
- $9 million to complete construction of the new North Yanchep Primary School
“Both North Yanchep Primary School and North Butler Primary School are due to open next year, which will take the pressure off existing schools in the area and allow for future population growth.
“The first stage of the new Banksia Grove Senior High School is due to open in 2015, ensuring a seamless transition for students from primary to secondary school in the first year in which Year 7s will be included in high school.
“After the successful opening of Butler College earlier this year, Stage 2 will be completed by 2016 which will cater for the progression of existing students into their senior years of schooling.
Additional funds will be spent upgrading existing schools across the region.
“This is a fantastic outcome for primary and secondary education in one of the fastest growing areas of Western Australia,” Mr Katsambanis said.
“It is a major investment in Perth’s rapidly growing northern corridor, providing our students in public schools with state-of-the-art facilities.
“The WA government also continues to invest funds to meet the rapid growth in enrolments. In the last financial year alone, more than 8,100 additional students enrolled in public schools across our state.
“As a government, we are proud to be delivering on key frontline services - one in every two dollars of the State Budget goes towards law and order, health and education services,” he said.
