New playgrounds for local schools
Three local schools will receive new funding from the State Government to upgrade playground equipment and to install shade sails.
Merriwa Education Support Centre will receive $10,000, Quinns Rocks Primary School will receive $20,000 and Yanchep District High School will receive $20,000 in the latest round of funding under a $5million State Government initiative.
Peter Katsambanis, Liberal Member for North Metropolitan, said that he welcomed this State Government investment that would help get more school children outside playing while being protected from harmful UV rays.
“We want all children in our schools to be physically active during their breaks.” Mr Katsambanis said.
“Public school students from years 1 to 10 must do a minimum of two hours physical activity each week during the school day as part of student learning programs.
"This funding will allow staff at these local schools the ability to plan and build playgrounds, including nature playgrounds where children can get their hands dirty and enjoy the experiences of being outside.
“Shade protection from harmful UV rays is especially important during our hot summer months. Students will get far greater benefits if they are able to use the playground equipment all year round.” Mr Katsambanis concluded.
