New local schools to meet rapid growth in Perth’s north

The announcement of a series of new state schools to be built in Perth’s northern suburbs reinforces the WA State Government’s strong commitment to providing a high quality education for all students.

Peter Katsambanis, Liberal Member for North Metropolitan Region, welcomed the announcement by Education Minister Peter Collier that the recent State Budget contained funding for the following new local schools:

  • A new primary school to be built in Alkimos (Trinity), which will open at the start of the 2016 school year;
  • Stage 1 of the new secondary school in Banksia Grove which will be completed in 2015; and
  • Another new primary school in the south west part of Alkimos which will be ready for the 2017 school year;

A Child and Parent Centre will also be completed at Neerabup Primary School by the end of 2014.

“This record investment by the State Government in building new schools over the next three years is in addition to next year’s completion of the second stage of Butler College, along with the two new primary schools opened at Yanchep Beach and North Butler at the beginning of 2014.”

Another important milestone will be reached next financial year when $19.5million is spent to complete the State Government’s air-cooling program, meaning every public school in Western Australia will be air-conditioned.

“When young families make the life-changing decision to start a new life in areas like Alkimos or Banksia Grove they rightfully expect their Government to provide core education services.”

“I am immensely proud to be a member of a Government that is making a multi-billion dollar investment to ensure the highest possible quality of education for our children.”

“Parents who are building a new life for their families across Perth’s northern suburbs can rest assured their children will be able to attend local schools with state-of-the-art education facilities and highly committed teaching staff.” Mr Katsambanis concluded.
