Lotterywest grants help local community groups

During the 2013-2014 financial year, the State Government provided over $55,000 to not-for-profit and community organisations in Banskia Grove, Butler, Merriwa, Pinjar and Quinns Rocks through Lotterywest grants.

Peter Katsambanis, Member for North Metropolitan Region, said that Western Australia as a whole benefited from the efforts of grassroots community groups and that they deserve to be supported by their State Government.

“I’m proud to be part of a State Government which understands the immeasurable value that community groups provide to local residents.” Mr Katsambanis said.

“Grants for the local area included $15,000 to support One Church Perth in hosting ‘Somerly Carols in the Park’ in 2013. This event saw over 10,000 local residents coming together to enjoy a community event at an important time of year.

“Other groups which received support through various Lotterywest grants were Spring in the Grove, Brighton Community Garden, Brighton Estate Residents Association, Whitfords & District Aero Modelling Club, and the Silver Threads Band.

“Without Lotterywest support, many of the organisations which are run by volunteers to give local residents the opportunity to come together simply wouldn’t exist.” Mr Katsambanis concluded.

In total, over $271 million in Lotterywest grants were awarded to an array of groups and organisations throughout Western Australia in the past twelve months.

Lotterywest is the only lottery in Australia where proceeds are distributed directly to the community.  For every dollar West Australians spend on their favourite Lotterywest games, 33 cents is returned to benefit the community.
