Locals to benefit from new sporting and recreation facilities grants

Peter Katsambanis, Member for North Metropolitan Region, has welcomed the announcement that the northern suburbs will enjoy the benefits of the State Government’s Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund, with a number of facilities in the City of Joondalup and the City of Wanneroo to receive grants to enhance and upgrade facilities.

The City of Wanneroo will receive funds for three projects: one to construct a new pavilion at Riverlinks Park in Clarkson, the second for construction of a perimeter track safety fence at the Speedway Motorcycle Club and the third for floodlighting to be installed at Lake Joondalup Park.

In the City of Joondalup, Admiral Park in Heathridge will have floodlighting installed. Greenwood’s Penistone Park will be upgraded, with the construction of a new pavilion and replacement of cricket practice nets and outdoor basketball courts

“We know that when people are active, not only is it good for their physical health, but it enhances their mental health too and helps keep them connected to community,” Mr Katsambanis said.

These local projects will be funded from the 2016/17 Annual and Forward Planning Grants from the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF).

“Funding from the WA Liberal Government will enable the councils to now progress with these projects, which will benefit a wide cross section of people in our community.

"Without this funding local councils might not otherwise be able to undertake some of these projects so we’re proud to be able to help get more people participating in sport and active recreation,” Mr Katsambanis continued.

“As an extra bonus, these projects also employ local companies and workers during construction.”

Through CSRFF the Government has made funds available annually over the last 40 years towards sport and recreation facilities around the State.
