Game-changing energy storage trial for Alkimos Beach

Peter Katsambanis MLC, Member for North Metropolitan Region, today welcomed news that Synergy will lead a four year trial on game-changing energy storage technology at Alkimos Beach.

“It is fantastic that local Alkimos residents will be the first to benefit from emerging storage technology that can reduce the cost of electricity for consumers and help create more sustainable communities.” Mr Katsambanis said.

“The development and enhancement of energy storage technology is the key to maximising the benefits of solar energy, especially in a state like ours that is blessed with a perfect sunny climate.

“Developing energy storage capacity will also help the many local solar energy businesses in Perth’ northern suburbs to grow and provide new job opportunities for local residents.” Mr Katsambanis said.

Apart from the installation of a 1.1MWh energy storage device at Alkimos Beach, the $6.7 million trial will offer participating residents virtual energy storage, solar rebates, solar hot water systems and other energy efficient appliances, an in-home energy display unit monitoring generation and usage, variable price plans with reduced rates for network electricity and an educational program to help residents maximise their energy and money saving potential.

“Energy storage technology is rapidly improving and becoming more affordable. The State Government believes that energy storage will be the next technological break-through to help residents and communities manage their energy usage and save on energy costs.

“I’m proud to see the WA Liberal National Government leading the way in promoting energy efficient communities and I urge all eligible residents to take advantage of this scheme which will help reduce their household energy costs.” Mr Katsambanis concluded.
