Freeway extension is great news for local residents
The 2014/15 WA State Budget contained great news for residents in Perth’s northern suburbs with $322 million committed to build the extension of the Mitchell Freeway from Burns Beach Road through to Hester Avenue.
Peter Katsambanis MLC, Liberal Member for North Metropolitan Region, welcomed this announcement as part of a $641.3 million State Government investment package in public transport and road infrastructure in the northern suburbs.
“It’s no secret that the northern corridor is one of the state’s fastest growing areas, so it deserves to be a key beneficiary of the State Government’s significant investment in transport and traffic improvement measures.” Mr Katsambanis said.
“I’m very excited to see funding allocated for the Mitchell Freeway to be extended from Burns Beach Road to Hester Avenue. This will relieve pressure on local roads in the growth suburbs of Clarkson, Butler and Jindalee, while catering for future residential developments further north in areas like Alkimos and Yanchep.”
The Budget also includes $43million to turn a 2.2km section of the heavily used Reid Highway into a dual carriageway between Duffy and Erindale roads, which will relieve traffic congestion in the area.
These new investments in local road infrastructure build on the extension of the northern suburbs train line to Butler, which is being delivered early and under budget, with the new station set to open around September 2014. The station will be serviced by 11 new buses and will have more than 900 car park bays.
“The State Government again shows its commitment to Perth’s northern suburbs by delivering on this investment package for crucial transport infrastructure.”
“The investment in the growing North Metropolitan region is part of the Government’s vision to build and support our growing State by building high quality infrastructure” Mr Katsambanis concluded.
