Residents in Perth’s northern suburbs received great news today with the announcement that the new Butler Train Station is set to open ahead of schedule and costing around $20 million less than originally budgeted.

Peter Katsambanis, Member for North Metropolitan Region, said the State Government is working hard to ensure commuters from Perth’s fast-growing northern suburbs will be able to utilise the Butler Train Station by the September school holidays.

“Initially, the Butler Train Station was going to be open for business by December. While final works around track and signal testing still need to occur before the station can be opened, by far the most important part of the project has been completed well in advance of the original timeframe and well under budget.” Mr Katsambanis said.

“This is a very exciting project for local residents, because it provides added choice in transport options for a rapidly growing part of our city.

“This vital State Government public transport project will assist in easing congestion on local roads.

“Commuters will have multiple choices on how to get to this new station. They will be able to utilise one of the 11 new buses which will provide feeder services, the shared pathway which allows passengers to walk or ride their bikes to and from the station, or one of the 900 car bays that will be available on site.

“Importantly, the station will feature enhanced safety and security measures including CCTV cameras which will be linked to the Public Transport Authority’s high-tech Central Monitoring Room.

“With more than 2000 commuters expected to use the station each day, we need to ensure a safe and secure journey for all.” Mr Katsambanis concluded.
