Butler rail project on time and on budget

23 October 2013
Residents in Perth’s northern suburbs have good reason to celebrate with news that the Butler rail extension project is on time and on budget. The $240 million project is scheduled for completion, as promised, by the end of 2014.
Peter Katsambanis, Member for North Metropolitan Region, welcomed today’s news that 80 per cent of the 7.5 kilometres of new tracks are now complete and that the new station building is nearing completion.
“This new rail project, funded by the WA Liberal-led Government, is an essential transport link for our expanding northern corridor,” Mr Katsambanis said.
“The new train station and adjoining bus interchange will be used by around 2,000 passengers a day which will help ease road congestion in our area.
"The project’s budget includes funding for 11 new buses, which will work as feeder services to the new station. The station development will also have more than 900 car bays making it extremely easy for local residents to access.
“I congratulate the Minister for Transport, Troy Buswell, and everyone else involved with this significant investment in public transport in the northern suburbs.” Mr Katsambanis added.
