Butler College expansion is great news for local students

Hon Peter Katsambanis MLC, Member for North Metropolitan Region, has welcomed today’s announcement by Education Minister Peter Collier that work is about to commence on the $35million Stage Two expansion of Butler College in Perth’s rapidly growing northern suburbs.

As part of the expansion, Butler College will receive two new classroom blocks, a lecture theatre, visual arts, music, media and dance areas, information technology and business studies facilities, and additions to the sports hall. It will also receive an extra 162 car parking bays, two sports hard courts, a hockey field, refurbishment of four science laboratories, an engineering studio, a food studio and textiles area.

Stage One of Butler College, worth $51.4million, opened last year and included specialist learning areas for students with special needs.

“Butler College currently has more than 600 students but when stage two is completed in early 2015 it will be able to cater for around 1,800 students,” Mr Katsambanis said.

“Work is already under way at Butler College to construct an additional new classroom block worth $8.4million, which will provide additional facilities for Year 7 students who will enter high school for the first time in 2015.

“This strong ongoing commitment by the WA State Government to Butler College will provide local students with first class facilities and high quality teaching throughout their secondary education.

“I am proud to be part of a government that is making sure all students are given the best opportunity to maximise their potential in life through access to high quality education,” Mr Katsambanis added.
