Budget delivers $1.4billion boost for Perth's northern suburbs
8 August 2013
Peter Katsambanis, Liberal Member for North Metropolitan Region, today welcomed the State Government’s commitment to build new schools, upgrade existing schools and invest in major transport and infrastructure projects across the North Metropolitan Region.
Today’s State Budget has allocated more than $1.4billion of funding across the region which incorporates some of Perth’s fastest growing areas.
The 2013/2014 Budget funding included a $483.2million investment in health infrastructure and services and $83.4million towards north metropolitan primary and high schools. Mr Katsambanis said the Liberal National Government Budget provided $24million for new primary schools at North Butler and North Yanchep.
The State Budget also delivered a further $13.5million for Butler College and $29 million for a new secondary school in Banksia Grove. In addition, North Cottesloe, Wembley and West Leederville primary schools would share in $10million to upgrade existing facilities.
Mr Katsambanis said the State Budget invested in meeting the growing enrolments at Western Australian public schools. WA public schools continued to grow last financial year, taking in more than 8,100 extra students.
“We are proud to be delivering on key frontline services - one in every two dollars goes towards law and order, health and education services,” he said.
Major road and transport projects in the northern corridor have been funded including the completion of the northern suburbs rail extension to Butler, the extension of the Mitchell Freeway from Burns Beach Road to Hector Avenue and the widening of the Reid Highway between Duffy and Erindale Roads.
The 2013/14 Budget also gave the green light for the expansion of Joondalup Arena, a major project that will provide a $20 million improvement to our local sporting facilities and will help build a stronger, healthier, happier and safer community.
The Liberal National Government’s strong economic leadership had delivered an unprecedented program of strategic, long-term infrastructure projects that were transforming the State for future generations of West Australians.
“This is responsible, sustainable investment to deliver world-class education, health and social services and crucial infrastructure to build and support our growing State,” Mr Katsambanis said.
