"By putting in the effort to set a high standard at the beginning of a brand new community, such as installing water-efficient fittings and fixtures in all homes, residents become more actively involved in conserving our precious water resources.
"Selecting water-wise native species of plants for landscaping and providing residents with a guide to assist new households use water as efficiently as possible are other simple but very effective ways to help a new community establish a water-wise culture.
"The team behind Alkimos Beach has set the standard for creating new water-wise residential communities." Mr Katsambanis concluded
The Waterwise Development Program is run by the Water Corporation and the Urban Development Institute of Australia WA. It recognises the importance of designing homes and communities to be more water efficient.
It covers retail, educational, mixed use, health and aged care developments, as well as residential developments, and builds on the success of the Water Corporation's Waterwise Land Development and Waterwise Display Village programs, established in 2003.
